The idea of The Way We Are
I attended a workshops organised for teachers from Poland and Ukraine where I met Olena Naumenko - an English teacher from Cherkassy.
We talked about our schools and our students and discussed possible cooperation.
Finally, we decided to give it a go and we found some students happy to start writing e-mails to their foreign friends.
In e-mails the students started writing about possible trips. We didn't know anybody who had organised such a trip before but why not to try this direction?
We have organised three visit so far (two to Poland and one to Ukraine). The students stayed in host families with their pen friends. We had no funding for the trips so we used school resources and we asked for help our local councils.
The Way We Are project started in 2011.
First students exchange e-mails.
Then, in 2012, we organised a trip to Poland for Ukrainian group
Next, in 2012, Polish group went to visit their friends in Cherkassy in Ukraine.
Finally, in 2013, Ukrainian students in a bigger group came to visit Poland again.
The students still exchange e-mails. They stay in touch on social networking sites. Their parents contact each other using Skype.
